What is important that we don’t have?
The technology ecosystem has spent decades successfully refining how it produces companies, and has established major institutions for organizing and legitimizing technical talent and capital to this end. It has invested comparatively little in understanding how those same capabilities might be directed toward producing public goods, and analogous public goods institutions are still nascent.
Given the scale of philanthropic possibility, how might the technology ecosystem incentivize and support the production of a successful third wave of philanthropy? Over three days in San Francisco, roughly one hundred Research Attendees representing 40+ philanthropic organizations and funders will work on frameworks for answering that question, joined on the final day by a wider audience of Interact Fellows and friends.

In the months surrounding the Colloquium, Interact will be conducting qualitative research on how the technology ecosystem engages with philanthropy. This research will take several forms, including individual interviews, working dinners, and a survey of the larger ecosystem. The findings will be synthesized into an edited volume shared with all attendees and with relevant foundations and technologists.
If you are attending, or considering it, we would like your answers to the questions that will shape the publication, who is suited to writing about them, and suggestions for who else should be in the room.
